Heart of Darkness composer Tarik O’Regan‘s new choral CD Threshold of Night debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard Classical Chart upon its release in September. The CD from Harmonia Mundi was the pick of the week when WNYC proclaimed, “Tarik O’Regan, Britain’s hottest young choral composer, often treads a line between very ancient and very new music. Some of the tracks on his latest album, “Threshold of Night,” sound vaguely like Renaissance polyphony but then, they also recall the spiritual, Eastern European branch of minimalism, with its repetitive, ear-pleasing textures.”

  1. No disagreement here about the amazing work done by Conspirare and Craig Hella Johnson! Our devious little conscience tends to make us focus on the artists directly associated with American Opera Projects. Shame on you, oh conscience of self-interest!

  2. Thank you for the comments re Harmonia Mundi’s recent release of “Threshold of Night.” Composer Tarik O’Regan is deserving and then some of the accolades that he is receiving for his music on this CD. But how, in good conscience, can you fail to comment on the performances by Conspirare and Craig Hella Johnson, without whom O’Regan’s masterful writing would remain just black notes on white paper?
